Camping = Fun

This weekend was the senior youth camping trip... without the youth. Originally we had 5 or 6 youth signed up to go, but one by one they started canceling until we were down to one. We hadn't heard from him for about a month so we weren't so sure if he was even going to be coming and it turned out he didn't. So Steve, Mel (who's been around for the summer - a different Mel than the one I visited during my holidays), and I went camping anyways.

The trip was just for Friday night, which made it kinda short, but it was still worth it. I took the afternoon off so we could setup camp before supper. Steve had bought a brand new 4 person tent that also came with 2 camp chairs and 2 sleeping bags. He was quite proud of it, and understandably so since he got it for a really good price. He had also picked up a propane stove so he was extra pleased with himself. We had borrowed another tent but it ended up being earwig infested so Mel ended up sleeping in Steve's new tent with us. Between the cold and the hard ground none of us slept very well at all.

Mel heads back to school on Thursday so it was nice to have her camping with us. I'll definitely be sad to see her go. As you all know, my Sudbury friends are few and far between, so having Mel move away for school definitely sucks. Not the mention that she's had a rough summer and Steve and I are a little worried about her going back to Ottawa and her non-Christian friends. She's worried too so that's a good sign. Hopefully we can figure out a way to support her in her faith while she's away. Steve has already hooked her up with a Christian couple he knows in Ottawa so that'll help.

Saturday was my nephew's first birthday, so Sunday we had a lunch party for him. He wasn't quite himself that day because of teething, but watching him eat his first ever piece of cake was priceless. Well I'm not sure how much cake he ate, but of course it was everywhere. At one point he put his face right into his cake, but he was watching us the whole time to see if he'd get in trouble for doing it. Too cute.

Hopefully I can get some pictures up of camping and the party this week.

Matthew.
