It's Friday!
This week has been an up and down one. Work is as boring and uninteresting as usual. I guess it helps me appreciate weekend and evening more, but I sure wish I enjoyed my job at least a little. Yesterday afternoon we had a department BBQ at George's house which was fun. We ate food and played some Bocce, the Italian version of lawn bowling. It was a pretty hot and sunny day so my face is extra red today.
My folks are gone for the weekend so I'm enjoying another little taste of freedom. Tonight I'm having people over again for a BBQ. Mel is leaving tomorrow, Saturday, so it's a farewell dinner. I went out last night to pick up some munchies and witnessed the aftermath of a pretty serious accident just down the street from me. There was a white sedan with a pretty messed up front end, but the worst was a mini-van flipped completely upside down in the middle of the intersection. I can't imagine what happened to cause the van to flip. Definitely said a quick prayer for those people. By the time I saw it there were two ambulances and two police cruisers on the scene. I also stopped at Blockbuster to rent a few more movies for the weekend: Flight of The Phoenix, and Friday Night Lights.
The planning for Clemster's American Vacation is pretty much complete. I've purchased my airline ticket, my bus ticket, and some travel insurance in case I need to visit a hospital or something. Saturday morning, shortly after midnight I'll catch a Greyhound to Toronto. My flight to Miami leaves at 9:45am and should arrive in Miami at around 1pm. I'll be staying in Boca Raton, FL for a few days with Bryan (FisherOfMen) and his wife Carol. I'll rent a car while there and on Tuesday I'll drive to Mobile, AL where I'll stay with Jeremy (jvmoore/fragboy) and his wife Alaina. On the 22nd I'll make my way to Avon, Indiana and stay with some friends of Katie (justsomegirl) for the weekend. On the 25th I'll head back to Mobile and then back to Boca Raton on the 27th. My flight leaves Miami at around 8am on the 28th and arrive in Toronto at around 11am. Then I'll spend the rest of the long weekend, until August 1st, with my very good friends Andy and Dana.
So yeah, I'm getting pretty excited despite being sad about not being able to see everyone I had originally hoped to on my trip. I'll just have to save those people for my next American adventure. I'm a little concerned about the driving since each stop is around 12 hrs apart. I've never driven more than 6 hours in one day so I'm not sure how well I'll cope. But I never will know until I try it, so I'm excited about that too. This is my chance to take a real vacation all by myself. I'm not too worried about seeing the sights. I'd rather see my friends that I have yet to meet face to face.
Matthew.
