I'm Getting Old!
You know you're getting old when the city bus driver who picks you up in the morning for work is younger than you. I didn't mind too much this morning cause she was pretty darn cute. ;)
My other adventures on the weekend involved games, BBQs, and a service at Cecil Facer. Saturday night a few of us went over to Melanie's place to play some games. Mel is staying with her cousins here for a few weeks this summer for a placement while she does her masters in Physiotherapy. She's been a lot of fun to have around and has fit right into our group. We'll be sad to see her go. There were five of us at her place. We goofed around playing Table Tennis for a bit and when the heat was too much we sat down to play Cranium. That's a pretty fun game. It's a mix of Trivial Pursuit, Charades, Pictionary, and then some. The teams ended up being me and Toby against Alysha, Angela and Mel. The girls ended up winning but it was all done to the last question so it was fun. Toby and I got a pretty big lead at one point, but they quickly caught up. He and I had troubles with the word puzzles so of course the girls kept giving us those types of questions as our last one since they knew we'd get it wrong. Good times.
Sunday morning a small group of us from the band went to help out with the service at Cecil Facer again. Toby got to announce his marriage so he was pretty excited about that. But for the first time for me, going to Cecil Facer to be with those kids, those young inmates, on a Sunday morning actually felt like church. The majority of the gang seemed to genuinely want to be there and they were happy to see us. They really enjoy our style of music and the size of our band. Having gone there month after month we've developed relationships with some of the guys that we see every time we go. One guy was being released a few hours after the service so he was extra excited, and nervous about being back on the outside. It's been great having the chance to fellowship with those kids, those young adults with so much potential.
In the evening my parents were going out for supper with friends so I asked if I could have a few people over for a small BBQ. They said it would be fine but were a little concerned about food because they weren't sure how many people I'd be inviting. I wasn't too sure either so I told them not to worry about it and I'd look after it. Well it only ended up being Toby, Alysha and myself for the BBQ. They brought three burgers and some sausages, so we each had one of each. They stayed inside and enjoyed the air conditioning while I "grilled out" as those crazy southern Americans say. :P After we were done, James and Amanda called and were bored, so they came over and we played Taboo. The teams were Alysha, James and me against Toby and Amanda. Probably the best part of the game is watching people's reactions when they mess up and say a word they aren't supposed to. It was pretty close until the end when my teams got on a roll and was scoring 5 points a round. Fun was had by all. It was a nice taste of being able to entertain people in my own place and I definitely enjoyed it.
Apparently it's feast day here as all the ladies in the department next to mine brought a whole lot of food for snacking. It's going to be tough resisting all that food. If I had known I wouldn't have brought a lunch. Heh heh. And then tomorrow there's going to be a BBQ at here work because Friday is Canada Day. Hopefully it also means we'll get to go home early. Woo!
Matthew.
