More Long Weekends Please
I'm having a really hard time starting this post and I'm not entirely sure why. Is it because I have too much to talk about or too little? I just can't seem to figure out where to start. Mind you I think this is normal for me as I try and find something interesting to post about.
This weekend past was a long weekend here in Canada. We had Monday off for the Queen's birthday. It's kinda silly considering I've never met or seen the Queen up close, but I'm not about to complain about having a day off. It was a fairly eventful weekend for me which was a nice change.
Friday night I hung out with two other guys from church. We were planning on playing Gerry's PS2 for most of the night, but we had a bit of an adventure trying to find a third controller and games that supported more than two players. After finally getting to Kevin's place with the third controller, Gerry realized he forgot to get the adapter needed for connecting the third controller. Back to the rental place they went, only to discover that the adapters they had didn't fit Gerry's older PS2. So they came back with National Treasure and a couple 2-player games. By the time we finished watching National Treasure - which is a pretty decent movie - it was midnight. Once we started playing the games we rented we kinda lost track of the time and before we knew it it was 4 am. Those fighting games can be addictive if you think you have a change as winning. I would have been fine staying over at Kevin's but I wasn't sure how my parents would react to not finding me in my bed when they got up, so Kevin drove me home. *sigh* Oh the joys of still living with my parents.
Saturday night Gerry, James, and I went to see Revenge of The Sith. It's a pretty intense movie with lots of action, but it wasn't terribly satisfying on the plot side of things. So we weren't sure what to think of the movie by the time it was done. A lot of threads were tied between this trilogy and the original one and it was neat to see them all fall into place. Lucas definitely redeemed himself from Episodes 1 & 2, but not enough to make me forget how unsatisfying those movies were. I went again last night with other friends that hadn't seen it yet and their initial reaction was the same as mine on my first viewing. The movie was more enjoyable though the second time through as I was able to sit back and relax. This time I caught a few more jokes/threads and I even spotted a little Millennium Falcon in the far corner of one scene. Both times I was surprised at how empty the theatre was.
Sunday morning we, those of us from No Idols that weren't away for the weekend or working, went to Cecil Facer to play for their services. The music went quite well with just four of us. The speaker was okay. He has a great testimony but it took him too long to get out of reliving the past and showing the kids how much God has changed his life. I also learned a disturbing thing from Eric, one of the guys I talk to every time I'm there. The guards and correctional officers might be going on strike over the summer. I'm sure they have a good reason to, but that would be really really bad news for the kids. They'd essentially be confined to their cabins for the whole summer. There would be no school, no church services, no library... and the list goes on. If the kids get into a fight, it won't be broken up unless things get really out of control - being confined to the boredom of their cabins will definitely mean more fights. So please pray that the strike doesn't happen.
Sunday night we had a BBQ at church because of the long weekend. The food was good, but I didn't have too much time to enjoy it since I was looking after the music again. The service was pretty low key - just music and communion. Afterwards some of us went to play some pool, then to Dairy Queen, and then back to Kevin's to hang out. It wasn't until I was half-way through my large Crispy Crunch Blizzard that I realized I was eating dairy. Oops. I didn't seem to have any major problems with my Colitis the next day so it wasn't enough dairy to cause a flare up. I'll chalk that goof-up as a dairy experiment to test my tolerance. Heh heh.
Monday was the quietest day of the weekend for me. I was hoping to hang out with someone, but they ended up having some things they had to do. So I stayed home, did some reading, played some computer games, and had dinner with my parents and a couple of my cousins. They are in their mid forties so it was interesting listening to them and my parents, in their late fifties, recount how things were when they first got married. Hard to imagine buying a brand new car for $3200. My how times have changed.
