Praise God Cause It's Friday
This past week has been a tough one for me as I have felt pretty horrible, physically speaking, for most of it.
On Monday I finally had my appointment with my specialist for my colitis. Upon finding out I put myself on a third round of Prednisone he told me he was going to be putting me on some new meds. These new meds though aren't perfect either. Just by being on them could send me to the hospital cause of the damage it might do to my pancreas. It could also give me cancer. Both of those cases have a small chance of happening, but what the drug does do is lower my immune system. It will lower it enough that I have to go for monthly blood tests to make sure nothing gets out of control. Chances are if I catch a cold I'll need antibiotics to fight it off. The doc also suggested I go for a bone density scan to make sure the Prednisone hasn't done any damage and take calcium supplements. I gave my first batch of blood for testing that day as well.
The problems with starting on the meds is gap left by phasing out the old ones while waiting for the new ones to work. Well Tuesday afternoon I ended up soiling myself for the second time now at work. Man was I ever pissed at myself for being so careless. I mean how do you tell your boss that you have to go home cause you crapped in your pants? Luckily the assistant manager's wife has colitis as well and understands some of what I'm going through. I think I might have to look into getting some kind of diaper while I wait for the new meds to kick in... not exactly a pleasant idea. "Yeah hi. My name is Matthew. I'm 26, single, live with my parents, and I wear a diaper."
I saw my family doctor Tuesday morning just to get refills for my usually meds and to tell him about my night in the ER last week. Wednesday I went for an ultrasound because of that night of bloody urine. It was kinda weird having the nurse poke and prod me as she moved the little wand around my upper abdomen. It also got a little worried cause sometimes when she pushed it felt like I was going to have a bowel movement. Luckily I didn't. Yesterday was my bone density scan. All I had to do was lie there as the thing scanned me. Nice and simple. I'll hear about both of those tests in about two weeks I guess. Well I may not hear anything since no news is good news when it comes to these things.
All throughout the week I've been pretty fatigued and just plain sick feeling. Monday I started getting a cough, but it seems to be going away today, though it was bad enough last night to justify not going to practice and going to bed early. I really don't know if I'm nauseous or if I'm in some kind of general pain, but I don't like the way I'm feeling. All I do know is that when I get home I'm going to lie down. Maybe I'll tell my mom not to wake me up for supper so I can get up on my own.
Oh! On a much more positive note, I received my replacement iPod Tuesday just before I had to go home. I charged it that night and on Wednesday I let it run for over 15 hours and it was still going strong. It was bed time by then so I put it in the charger for the night. I'm definitely glad I had it replaced. It's so nice being able to just let it run during the day. The headphone jack is a little loose though so they keep coming out.
Now to work on getting as healthy as my iPod.
Matthew.
