February Is Just Around The Corner

So I am not part of the union after all. Grrrr. I just don't understand work politics. I'm now considered a casual or temp which means I still don't get benefits and I still can't apply for jobs posted internally. If I find out on my first new paycheck that I have to pay union dues I won't be a happy employee at all. I mean I'm running around getting my police check and medical checks and all these other forms done for them for what? I honestly don't know and none of my coworkers seem to know either. June 30th. Gotta find another job before June 30th.

A weekend or two ago the college and career group went out for desserts on the Sunday night. So as we were chatting one of the University students, Marianne, mentioned that she has to find someone who is chronically ill for a class project. She's a nursing student and has to write a paper about how chronically ill people and their families cope with their illnesses. So I asked what she meant by chronic. She rhymed off a couple illnesses as if she'd done it many times, not really expecting anything to come of it. When she mentioned asthma I chimed in that I had that. She immediately perked up and then got all intense when I mentioned I have ulcerative colitis as well.

So tonight Marianne and her classmate are coming over to interview my family and me. It turns out my mom did this last year for another student, so they are cool with this. Of course as soon as my dad found out it's a girl from church he starts ribbing me about her. "What's her name? Where's she from? How old is she? Is she single? Is she rich?"

*sigh*

Okay okay. I'll admit I think she's cute (didn't tell my dad that), but I know next to nothing about her - she still might be a teenager for all I know. And the idea of telling her about all my medical problems is kinda scary. I'm sure I'll be blushing a lot. Oh well. Such is the life of a guy who's a sucker for a pretty smile.

Matthew.
