Time For Another Scope
Here's a grossness disclaimer as I'm posting about my Inflamatory Bowel Disorder. Continue reading at your own risk. ;)
The last time I saw my specialist about my IBD he gave me a weeks worth of some new enemas as well as a few weeks worth of pills (horray for free samples) and he told me to call him in a week to tell him how the meds were working. I asked if I should make an appointment because I've never been comfortable leaving a message with his secretary and waiting for him to get back to me. After the week was over I called his office and left him a message that the new meds were working well, but that I was now out of them since he only gave me that one week supply. He didn't call me back and that night I had no enemas to take. The next day I had a pretty bad headache from not taking the emenas since they have steroids in them. I left another message with his secretary that day and he still didn't get back to me. A week went by and no phone call. Luckily those enemas were strong enough to get things back into a semblance of control and I didn't have any real problems while being off medication. But I knew I'd better not get complacent or my problems would flare up again, so I called again on Tuesday and he finally called me back. I went to his office after work and picked up some more samples he had. He was inbetween patients so we talked a little bit and decided that I should get another scope done on Monday the 25th - a flexible sigmoidoscopy.
Now the scopes themselves aren't that bad unless you have ulcers which I didn't when I had my first scope done. The colonoscopy I had was pretty cool because I got to see what he was seeing through the monitor. He talked me through it and showed me the difference between a healthy area and a not so healthy area. It was like watching an operation on TLC but I was the patient. heh heh. So that scope is cool and didn't give me any nightmares of pain like it can for some people. The preperation the day before on the other hand is not so cool. This Sunday I'll be on a strictly liquid diet which is fine cause I've found popsicles work well at and deceiving my hunger sensors. However I have to take very potent laxatives Sunday night around supper time. If anyone ever suggests you have to take stuff like Castor Oil or Citromag..... run for your life! On the scale of the nastiest stuff I've ever tasted in my life, Citromag is right near the top and I get to drink a whole 16oz bottle of the stuff. *shudder* I can still remember the taste. I can't drink Sprite or any other lightly lemon-flavored drink because most laxatives are lemon-flavored to try and take the nastiness factor away, but that so doesn't work. Once I stomach the stuff I'll be okay... and after I make several dozen trips to the bathroom of course. lol. I'll let you know how everything goes.
This weekend looks like another boring weekend since I'm once again being left alone in the city by my friends. This weekend is Aquire the Fire here in Ontario so all the youth and leaders will be gone and this is the start of the University fall break so those people will be gone too. I'm running out of movies that I want to see at Blockbuster, but maybe I can find some movies that have been hiding from me on the shelves. heh heh.
Matthew.
