Smack-Talk Over The Internet
Last night I hooked up with jvmoore from the Webb board and we played some Unreal Tournament 2004. It's just a first person shooter where we run around and shoot each other. Some of you I'm sure couldn't think of anything more boring to do, but we get a kick out of it - mostly because we're able to talk to each other, hear each other's voices, while playing. Being able to interact with another teammate or even an opponent makes the game much more fun. Just like watching a comedy alone isn't the same as watching it in a group of people. You laugh louder when other people are around. So yeah. Jeremy and I spent the majority of our time just laughing and poking fun at each other because of the goofy things we were doing in the game. Even his wife was laughing at him in the background. Good times.
It's funny how strange it feels talking to someone over the internet as opposed to over the phone. There really isn't a difference other than the device being used. When talking on the internet I have a headset that I wear freeing up my hands so I can use the mouse and keyboard. The chord on my headset is long enough that I can walk around my room, even lay on my bed if I want to, while talking. I have about the same mobility as with my chord-less phone. Yet it still feels different. Especially with my parents around in the house. For some reason it just makes me more self-conscious and I'm afraid my parents will think I'm talking to myself. I've pretty much gotten used to it now, but Jeremy made a comment that if left strange last night so it got me thinking. I guess somewhere in the back of our minds there's still a little voice calling us geeks and nerds because we have friends on the internet that we type and talk to.
Matthew.

Hi double poster Jen. :D Too funny. I had a friend that I used to "call" over the internet. We'd just arrange to meet on MSN and then have a talk. Both MSN and AIM have voice chat capabilities. They just don't always work right.
