Speaker Update

Saturday morning I went into Futureshop and picked up the latest Toshiba DVD player. It has optical and coax outputs so it gave me a change to try both types of digital input on the Logitech Z-5450 speakers. And the problem is definitely in how the speakers handle the digital input. Because it tries to auto-detect the type of digital input being sent from the player it switches modes as the DVD does, but every time it switches it makes that loud boom.

Returning such a large purchase just felt strange. Normally those are done deals for me. I mean I had already done my research and all the reviews were quite positive. I'm definitely disappointed considering how nice they sounded. For the time being I'm going to keep the DVD player I purchased this weekend. It's a bit of an upgrade with HDMI out and optical out. It was an open box model so it was under $100 including taxes. I finished watching the second season of Lost on it, but have noticed some picture problems. I'll run a few more movies through it and see if it's still happening. Otherwise back to Futureshop it goes. I hope all this returning isn't going to be habit-forming.

Matthew.
