Football With Amanda Falk
This weekend was a bit of a roller coaster for me and I'm still trying to recover from it, but it was definitely worth it.
Friday night there was a youth concert at one of the larger churches in town. We as a youth group were going, so Steve picked me up just after work to head over to the church to see what needed being done to help set up for the concert. There wasn't too much to do so we kinda hung around and helped feed the bands.
There were two featured artists for the night. One was a guy who's name I can't remember. He ended off the night with a great worship set. Hard to believe he hadn't played with his band members before. The drummer was simply amazing. He wasn't trying to steal the show but it was hard to take your eyes off of him because of how joyful or excellent his playing is.
The first artist of the night was Amanda Falk who came through town two years ago with Starfield. It just so happens that my second blog post ever was about her.
Having met her and seen her in concert before I was looking forward to seeing her again. This time she brought a full band with her which made the concert even better. After all was said and done I stayed behind to help them pack everything up. I was kind of surprised that I was the only one to do so, but oh well. I had a lot of fun getting an inside look at Amanda and her band. There are five of them, Amanda on vocals and keys, Meg on vocals and bass, Jordan on vocals and guitars, Jordan on electric guitar, and Ryan on drums. Plus Eric, their sound guy and Evan who is the drummer for a band he, Jordan and Jordan are a part of. Their ages range from 16 to 21. They made us try and guess who was the youngest which wasn't easy of course. Steve and I were both wrong.
The band had all of Saturday off so Steve and I made plans to hang out with them in the afternoon. After a depressing morning of shopping for pants, shirts, and ties for work Steve came and rescued me. We showed up at the hotel around 2pm and went out to play a little football. It was a lot of fun despite a quick cold rain that fell near the beginning. It actually made the game a little more interesting since the field got slippery. The best thing had to be teaching Amanda and Meg the basics of the game and watching them get into it. At one point Amanda scored a touchdown but didn't realize it. She was trying to figure out what just happened so I told her she just got a touchdown. She got all excited and said, "Why didn't anyone tell me so I could do a little dance and spike the ball?" She got her wish after the next touchdown she scored. Heh heh. After the game we hung out in their hotel for a bit and then went to East Side Mario's for supper. The food was delicious and the company was great. The best had to be watching them break out into song because of the radio music in the background.
Sunday morning we had to be at church bright and early (I got there around 7:45) to set up decorations and such for the big 40 Days of Community kick-off. By the time I got home from church I was just wiped from Saturday's football game and being up so early. So I took a nap before heading getting ready for the evening service. After the service the College and Careers group went to a cafe to hear Amanda. For most is was their first time hearing her. It was great seeing the band again and being able to hang out with them one last time.
When I got home last night at 11pm I was very very tired. I was also feeling really depressed and I wasn't completely sure why. I know some of it had to do with having to say goodbye to the band, especially Evan. He and I really clicked. He's just a riot to hang around with. I wish I had a group of friends like that here in Sudbury. Friends I could spend 24 hrs with in a van and not want to kill afterwards. We're getting there with the College and Careers group, but not yet. I also wish I had a band like that to help me out Sunday nights. That would be so sweet.
I'll definitely be thinking about and praying for Amanda and the band as they continue their tour Eastwards and hope to see them again soon.
