One More Sleep
Less then two days until vacation. So close I can almost taste it. Today our department is going for lunch at 1:30pm which means I'll be getting home early. We're going to a restaurant called Apollo Restaurant which is a very nice Greek place. Tomorrow at 1pm we have our annual pizza lunch and coral sing for the whole office. That also means I'll be getting home early. Definitely a nice way to end the week. I just wish we didn't have to work up until the 23rd.
Monday night Christi-Ann came over with Brady so I finally got to spend some time with him. He's just starting to play strange with people so I made sure not to smother him as soon as he woke up. He was pretty good with me and I had fun playing and snuggling with him. At one point I was walking around and holding him with his back to my tummy and his head was constantly moving back and forth as he tried to take everything in. Probably the highlight of the night was Christi-Ann placing him on his back under the tree so he could watch all the flashing lights. He had a blast under there, laughing, "talking" and kicking.
Tuesday night I finished my shopping. I got Brady some sound making blocks, one of those multi-coloured play phones with wheels, and a little wind up submarine to play with in the tub. I was kind of surprised how little selection there was for infant toys, but I'm happy with what I found. Especially that phone cause I remember the church nursery having one and what child isn't mesmerized by talking on the phone?
It didn't take me too long to shop which meant I had plenty of time to kill before a group of us went to see Narnia at 10pm. I'm totally not a shopper, so it wasn't easy biding my time just by window shopping. Of course I gravitated toward the computer stores which meant plenty of temptation not to pick up gifts for myself. But I was a good boy. :D
Naria is excellent. Just as when I read the books I had to keep reminding myself that it's a kids movie. It's so hard not to compare the books, and now the movie to Lord of The Rings. I mean it deals with some pretty tough topics, not to mention the Christian imagery. I was definitely impressed at how faithful the movie was to the book. I'll have to read the book again.
It still amazes me though, with all the amazing computer generated effects in movies these days, that they still can't get green/blue screen scenes right. In the one scene when Peter, Susan and Lucy are following the beavers high up in the mountains, the compositing is horrible. It's so obvious they aren't in the real location. I guess they were too busy playing with Aslan's fur, which was fantastic btw, to give a simple scene like that a critical eye. The same thing can be seen in The Two Towers when Merry and Pipin are riding on Tree Beard through the woods.
Oh well. Nobody's perfect. ;)
