Of Peanuts and Patience
My parents can be pretty cute sometimes. We've got this chipmunk living under our shed that they call "Chippy". I'm sure that's the name of 90% of all chipmunks in the world. Whenever they spend time outside puttering around the yard or even eating, they have their pockets filled with peanuts and sunflower seeds because they know Chippy will come to visit.
My dad likes to hide peanuts all over the place where our table and BBQ are. He'll hide them up high in trees, down low along one of the railings, and now he's even been hiding some in a little cubby hole he made using bricks. My dad gets a good laugh watching Chippy track down all the peanuts.
My mom likes to sit in a lawn chair and let Chippy hunt for peanuts she hides in the cuffs of her shorts, sleeves, and even the neck of her shirt. Chippy climbs all over here and it's fun to watch my mom interact with it. At times he will even start sniffing around inside her ear looking for nuts. Chippy seems to like sunflower seeds the most and they are the best to feed him since it takes time to fill his cheeks with them. When my very pregnant sister was over for dinner the other night my mom stuck some peanuts and sunflower seeds on top of her belly. It was pretty funny.
I remember playing with the chipmunks at my Nono's cottage when I was young. We had the chipmunks scampering all over us as well. I remember there was one chipmunk that would sit on my hand taking the peanuts and I was able to give his belly a scratch or two with my finger. Every summer we came back to camp one of the first things we'd do as kids was look for chipmunks and their holes. Some holes were there for years and we gave them a LOT of peanuts. Do you think God made peanuts the same shape as our fingers just He could watch chipmunks trying to nibble on our toes and fingers? And how come their feet are always cool to the touch? Such a beautiful little animal. I think the world would be a better place if everyone had a chipmunk to play with.

when i was in highschool there were a lot of chipmunks down here in the south, but they had a death wish. they kept jumping infront of my car, lets just say i hit a lot one summer. there doesn't seem to be as many anymore.... hmmm... i hope there isn't anything connecting those two things?!?!?!
